Pyramid tea bags
Loose leaf is weighed and packed as it is, for brewing by the pot. Pyramid bags hold the same leaf in a single-cup portion, for service where a pot is impractical.

Our Process, From Sourcing To Dispatch

We hold no finished blends. Your order is formulated and blended after it reaches us, which takes a little longer than shipping from stock — but it means the tea you receive matches the sample you approved.

We buy at auction, directly from established estates, and from small growers in the high-elevation gardens around Darjeeling.
2 · Taste
Nothing is bought without our master tea taster approving it first. He tastes around 1,500 cups a day during the season.
3 · Blend
Formulated and blended to your order at our facility in Siliguri.
4 · Pack
Loose leaf, pyramid bags, our packaging or yours. Same facility.
5 · Ship
Couriered to your address, with all export documentation and clearance prepared by us.
We do not own tea gardens.
This means we are never under pressure to sell you our own harvest. Each season we buy the best lots available, from wherever they come. A supplier who owns a garden can only sell you what that garden produced.

Who Selects Your Tea

Our co-founder Punit Poddar has been tasting tea for seventeen years, and his family has been in the tea trade for more than sixty.

He tastes around 1,500 cups a day through the season, and every lot is approved by him before we buy it. Tea selection is not a separate quality check at Udyan. It is the main work of the business.

Wholesale Tea: Common Questions

What is the minimum order for wholesale tea?

10 kg per blend for bulk whole leaf, 25 kg for bulk CTC, and 25 kg for a custom blend. Private label starts at 200 units per tea, per packaging type. Tea bags start at 5,000, which can be split across up to five variants.

How long until my order arrives?

We dispatch smaller orders in 7–10 days and larger ones in up to 4 weeks, then courier transit is added on top of that. We hold no finished blends — we buy leaf, taste it and store it as leaf, and your order is formulated and blended after it reaches us. That adds time against a supplier shipping from stock, and it is what makes the tea you receive match the sample you approved.

How do samples work?

Tell us which teas you would like to try and in which format. We put the set together to your selection and ship it to you. Custom blend samples go out within 2 weeks of your brief.

Do you ship to my country?

We have shipped to more than 25 countries, including the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Japan and the UAE. Tell us your destination in the enquiry form and we will confirm.

Is shipping included in the price, and who pays import duty?

Prices are ex-works Siliguri, so shipping is quoted separately once we know the weight and destination. Import duty and any customs charges are paid by you on arrival.

Who handles export and import documentation?

We prepare all export documentation and handle export clearance from India — Certificate of Origin, Phytosanitary certificate, Tea Board approval and FDA prior notice. Import clearance is handled at your end, and we supply the documents your customs broker will need.

Will the blend be the same every time I order?

Yes. Once you approve a blend we hold the formulation and match it on every run. Leaf changes from season to season, so we adjust the proportions to hold the profile rather than repeat a fixed recipe against different tea.

Do I need to open an account or register?

No. Send the enquiry form and we will reply with pricing. There is no account to open and no registration — the order minimums are the only commitment.
